Couple of things i forgot to mention on yesterday's blog. We went thru a couple of section with cedar sawmills. I wish I could have captured the amazing smell of freshly cut cedar, hmmm.
Today was a fairly short day, but one with a lot of climbs (see the 2102m of going up hill), but it looked worse than it actually was. I love the long constant climbs. Again it's all a question of rhythm. The route was even simpler today, follow route 3 East all day. There's simply nothing on either side for the whole 66km (which is actually fairly small when you travel that by car). The road was much busier than i thought. Not heavy traffic, but a car would pass by every 10-15 seconds on either side.
The toughest thing to do today was to manage the clothing. It was fairly hot when climbing the hills because there was practically no wind, and you're working really hard. But going downhill was simply freezing. Sweat and cold wind don't make a good pair. I was happy to have decided at the last minute to bring my wind breaker.
Getting my head ever closer to the clouds...
We had our lunch prepared today at km 35. No need to worry about that, plus there was really no option. One of the many great advantages of doing it with Velo Quebec. It was a pause in a very quiet setting.
It was amazing to go over the Allison Pass at 1300m high. All the way to the top, we were riding with the water of the river running against us, and as soon as we crossed the top, the water then started runing in the same way as us.
After lunch the sky finally cleared, giving way to a beautiful warming sun. Lo and behold, we finally could see the mountain tops. It's the first time the sky is clear enough to let the full nature unfold. Magnificent to say the least. And as you can see, some snow at the top even in the beginning of July!
We were warned that we could cross the path of wild life today, and that was the case. It was very easy to spot the black bear, there was at least 10 cars stopped on the side of the road to take pictures. It's amazing to see, and especially how little the bear cares about us.
No Internet, no cable TV here at the Manning Park Resort. Really disconnected for technology, no choice but to enjoy the outdoors. It's sad, that's the day I chose to check my work e-mails! Oh well that's going to wait...
I'll attach the pictures later
